Fire at Paris Book Store La Hune

I looked out my window this afternoon to see a large plume of ominous looking smoke billowing up behind the bell tower of St. Germain des Près.  I grabbed my camera and went down to investigate and discovered an even larger crowd of onlookers and a busy team of first responders on the scene.   There was significant fire in the bookstore La Hune…those poor books!  I didn’t have a long lens with me, but I worked my way through the crowd to the front of the barricade just in time to snap a few photos before the police started yelling at us, “Get back!  If it explodes you’re all dead!”  (I took the liberty of translating that into English).  Not wanting to be dead just yet, I headed across the street to do my grocery shopping and let the firefighters and life-savers do their work.  When I returned shortly after, the fire was under control, but there was still lots of commotion and a very curious crowd.
